Garage Door Pressure Sensor

The sensors detect obstructions in the path of a closing garage door and prevent the door from closing when the path isn t.

Refer to the owner s manual to determine which is which. Garage doors may display a variety of symptoms if sensors need attention. If any object blocks the path of the infrared sensors the garage door opener will not activate or will reverse if operating. That s a job for the powerful motorized mechanisms.

Again if someone or something contacts the sensor the door stops closing and pulls away. On the garage door motor there will be two knobs or dials to adjust the opener and the reverse sensor. The bottom sensing edge stops and reverses the door upon contact with an obstruction. Garage door openers manufactured after 1993 include sensors to prevent a door from closing on a child or pet.

Sensing edges provide entrapment protection for motor operated doors by offering an auto reverse or auto stop feature. The second line of defense is a set of infrared sensors which should be mounted 4 to 6 above the floor on each side of the garage door frame. Safety sensors are critical components of most automatic garage doors. These sensors are not door openers or closers though.
