Unfortunately these parts often go out over time which may cause your garage door opener to no longer function.
When you find that your garage door motor is making a humming noise but not opening and closing it typically means that it has gone off track or needs some sort of small adjustment.
A loose garage door opener chain makes loud slapping sounds and causes jerky door movements that smack the rollers against the track.
If that isn t the problem then try opening and closing the door with the wall switch.
In this case you should still be able to open the door manually.
A worn belt or chain and cable assembly can also make noise tighten chain or belt tension to correct this problem.
While the unit is open inspect all the gears and sprockets.
The opener motor is fine but the shaft doesn t turn.
Most likely this will resolve the situation.
So if you are pressing your wall console or remote and you hear the operator making noise but the door is not moving you just might need to replace your drive gear or screw drive coupler.
In the case that the door responds to the switch then there s a good chance it s the remote that has an issue.
So start by tightening the chain find the procedure in your owner s manual.
A faulty circuit board will cause the garage door opener to make clicking sounds.

Luckily these parts can be replaced.
Replace the gear and sprocket assembly or the drive and worm gears when they re worn and making noises.
